Metainformation:
Last modified: new data set 2015
Survey reference day: 31 December every year
Regionalisation: Cantons
Survey: The Buildings and Dwellings Statistics
Remark:
The Buildings and Dwellings Statistics (BDS) provide information about the structure of the whole building and dwelling stock.
Building (Definition):
Residential buildings are permanent structures firmly fixed to the ground for residential use. In the case of semi-detached, group and terraced houses, each building is counted individually if it has its own separate entrance from the outside and if there is a horizontal, supporting partition wall between the buildings from the ground floor to the roof. The Buildings and Dwellings Statistics (BDS) refer to all residential buildings existing in Switzerland on 31 December of the reference year.
They include strictly residential buildings (single-family houses, multi-family houses), residential buildings with subsidiary use (e.g. residential buildings with a business, farmhouses etc.) and buildings partly used for residential purposes (e.g. administration buildings or school buildings with accommodation for a caretaker or hotels, hospitals, residential care homes, etc.).
Energy sources:
Energy sources for heating and warm water supply. If several energy sources are used in one building, the data are based on the main energy source.
Type of heating
Type of heating means the main type of heating used in the building.
Hot water supply
A building is considered to have a warm water supply if most of its dwellings are accordingly equipped.
Period of construction
The construction period means when the building was completed. This does not take into consideration any changes or modifications made to the building. There may be some discrepancies for the construction periods 'before 1919' or '1919-1945' because the construction year 1919 was not clearly allocated to the period '1919-1945'.
