All road vehicles registered for the first time in Switzerland by owners domiciled in Switzerland are taken into account. Most of these are new vehicles, but a few are used, imported vehicles. Each month, the FSO receives an extract from the database containing all newly registered road vehicles in Switzerland up to the end of the previous month. These monthly figures are always provisional during the year. Additional registrations forprevious months are likely. Every month, the data for all previous months are reloaded (overwritten). The results are only considered final once the figures for a complete year (January-December) are available.

Canton

The canton is defined by the owner's address and not by the registration plate.

Vehicle group / type

The different vehicle types are defined in the Ordinance on the Technical Requirements for Road Vehicles (RVTRO) SR 741.41, art. 6 to 28 (in German).
