Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Mortality

Mortality computed from the data of all Switzerland (26 cantons)

Measure

Median age

The median age is the age that divides the registered cases into two equal groups (50%) with half of cases below and half above this age at the time of the event (diagnosis, death).

Risk before age 70

The cumulative risk before the age of 70 corresponds to the number of individuals in a given population group who between birth and the age of 70 will be newly diagnosed with or will die from a cancer, in %.

YPLL before age 70

Years of potential life lost (YPLL) refers to the total number of years lost due to deaths occurring before the age of 70, calculated as the sum of the difference between individual's ages at the time of their death and the age of 70. This indicator shows the impact of cancers on premature mortality. Cancers associated with mortality in younger people and/or frequently occurring before the age of 70 lead to a large number of years of potential life lost.
